Employability or transferable skills are highly desirable, skills that turn one into a very attractive candidate for employers. They are the set of skills employers require from potential employees because they are valuable in every job. Some of these skills are listed under these main categories though not limited to them.
1. Problem-solving
2. Communication skills
3. Adaptability
4. Collaboration
5. Time management
6. Organization
7. Technology use
8. Information use
9. Personality traits
10. Leadership
It is normally expected that graduates should have these skills, unfortunately it is hardly so. There is therefore a huge gap between the performance of graduate employees and that which employers expect and yearn for. Organisations are crying out because the curriculum of Nigerian Universities and other tertiary institutions that were patterned to raise graduates that should drive the work force of government establishments, companies and other organisations seem to have failed. Annually thousands of graduates turn out from many schools, yet corporations, social sectors [NGOs] and entrepreneurs struggle daily to find and retain quality talents for their organisations.
Nigerian economy and the nation thus suffer because the people who are mostly expected to meet the talent and leadership skills needed for our struggling economy are not adequately equipped to make the desired impact.
Another challenge for organisations and entrepreneurs is that of hiring and retaining committed quality team. No matter how big your vision is, if you do not identify, recruit and retain who can work your vision to fruition, you have set yourself up for colossal failure.
ETF’s vision therefore is to through her training center prepare the right set of employees by delivering key skills that are not taught in formal education settings, but are critical to high performance at individual and organisational levels. Most leaders will agree that the skills that sharpened and deepened their understanding of their work has been gained from continual updates from workshops, conferences and trainings such as ours.
Virtually every senior leader would say that they will not be where they are today without some or all of these key ingredients yet these ingredients are not taught in even the best classrooms instead are delivered through informal channels to which minorities have limited access.
ETF since 2012 have been preparing young graduates for high performance in the work place. Most of the trainees are now gainfully employed and employers testify to the effectiveness of these trainings. For this year 2023, we have training planed every month and for details kindly check the event session of our website. Read more
